Rural Nest

Sharing a vision with a young family of four, who wished to move away from a busy urban routine, we worked together to create a modern country home that meets their rhythm and lifestyle.

Inspired by traditional monolithic rural structures and natural aesthetic, the design aims at efficient composition of volumes as well as use of sustainable materials. Zoning-wise, the main objective was to separate the master bedroom creating a very private and uplifting suite as well as to separate dedicated spaces for both partners to work from home. One manifested into an open yet physically independent library on the first floor landing before entering into the master suite, and another shaped as a more conventional office by the main entrance into the house.

Choice of slate and timber was driven by the aspiration to enhance the sense of connection to nature and the world around you, with of course durability, maintenance, tactility and other beneficial qualities contributing to this decision.
